Our Cape Cod Vacation

We're back a wee bit early from our first family vacation. Let's just say we got Earl'ed---although we were supposed to stay until Labor day, we left Friday morning because strong winds and power outages were predicted. No power wouldn't normally be a big deal, but, in this case, the toilet in our cottage needed it to work! (For those curious, the reason the toilet needed electricity is the septic leaching field was elevated because of the high water table, so a pump is needed to move the poo.)

Our six days on the Cape was good fun. You can see some photos on our Shutterfly site. We stayed in West Yarmouth in a cottage we rented from one of Eric's colleagues:

The cottage was in a convenient, central location on the Cape and only about 1/2 mile from the beach. We were overly excited about being only 4.3 miles from a Trader Joe's :)

Favorite memories:
  • Picnicking whilst enjoying a free outdoor classical concert at Drummer Boy Park in Brewster
  • Family bicycle rides to the beach (especially the one where Ethan screamed the whole way home)
  • Ethan using the slide outside the cottage

The vacation continues at home. Today (Saturday, 9/4) we went apple picking. More photos here. Yeah, that's Ethan and daddy climbing a tree to pick apples. Mommie nearly had a heart attack. Ethan also enjoyed---we mean really enjoyed---his first fresh-picked apple. Take a look:
