Our wedding night we stayed at the Whittier Suites in German Village in Columbus. We dined at Lindey's (the place at which we dined on our engagement night).
Sunday we flew to Portland, Oregon. We stayed at Lion and the Rose, a Victorian B&B located in northeast Portland. The flora in Oregon is spectacular --- the flowers are super sized!
Monday morning we visited the Japanese Garden of Portland. After lunch we drove to the Heceta Head Lighthouse bed and breakfast on the Oregon coast where we stayed two nights. Although a bit cold and drafty, the bed and breakfast is highly romantic.
Tuesday, after taking a two-hour nap after the 7-course breakfast, we visited the world's largest sea caves and saw sea lions. Later in the afternoon we toured the lighthouse and then went for a hike over the hill to a nearby beach.
Wednesday we drove down Highway 101 to California. We stopped at Sand Dune Frontier so that Eric could fulfill his boyish need for adventure by riding an ATV at high rates across drifting sand.
We continued down 101, through the Redwood National and States Parks, ending at the Turtle Rocks Oceanfront Inn in Trinidad. The northwest coast is absolutely breathtaking.
On Thursday we returned to the Redwood National and States Parks and hiked to the Tall Tree Grove. We saw redwoods that were over 370 feet tall! Words and pictures fail to capture the majesty of these giants.
Friday, after a short hike and nice conversation at Patrick's Point State Park (just down the street from our B&B) we drove to Mendocino. Betsy barely survived the tortuous Route 1 whose twists and turns rival any roller-coaster. We're staying at the MacCallum House Barn, Room 14. The working fireplace is a delight.
Saturday was a leisurely day strolling around Mendocino and Jug Handle State Reserve just north of town. After a leisurely dinner we walked along Mendocino's bluffs.
Sunday morning we started our drive to San Francisco after a quick workout and our final (unbelievably good) MacCallum House breakfast. Along the way we
stopped at the Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery, located in Sonoma County, for a wine tasting. We rolled into San Fran around dinner time. We're staying at the Union Street Inn, which features an awesome urban garden where breakfast is served (pictured right).
Monday, Betsy again indulged Eric's need for adventure by agreeing to ride with him across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito on a tandem bicycle. We continued past Sausalito to Tiburon. From Tiburon we took a ferry back to San Francisco.
Tuesday was more of the same. We went on a city kayak tour of San Francisco Bay in a tandem kayak. The weather was perfect, blue skies and almost no wind. After kayaking we strolled around the Ferry Building Marketplace for the balance of the afternoon.
