Day 7: Noah is critical

We received a call from Dr. Rios this morning that Noah had some set-backs over night:
  • He is not producing urine. They suspect a renal vein thrombosis (blood clot) because of dehydration.
  • They have to stop giving him fluids to reduce stress to his kidneys. This makes it difficult for him to maintain his blood pressure, though it is OK right now.
  • His potassium is rising b/c of the fluid restriction and his kidneys inability to process it. This can lead to heart arrythmias and eventually to his heart stopping.
  • Treatment options are dialyisis until his kidneys begin to function, or possibly a medication to dissolve the clots. He is receiving an renal ultrasound right now to determine the location of clots/confirm the diagnosis.
  • They said they have done dialysis on kids this young, but it is not common.
  • His condition is critical.
Please pray:
  • That his blood pressure would be maintained
  • That his kidneys would start working.
  • That if he needs dialysis (cleans the blood of potassium and other junk), he would be safe and tolerate it well.
Thank you for praying on behalf of our family.

  2. Looking at the tender picture of your family together in the column at right makes me weep... cries of joy for you, and cries of pain. I will join you with crying out to the Lord on your behalf...

  12. Westervelt's know we are praying for you without seasing, with broken hearts for Noah.

Here is an encouragement I received today from a friend in Australia.

Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Friends, if the past and present reality is one of contradiction, what is it that you are thanking Him for?  His Love? Yes. But also, you are thanking Him in anticipation of a breakthrough tomorrow. You are thanking Him IN ADVANCE! Even when there is no evidence of it in the present reality. Hebrews 11:1 calls it faith.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

So the peace of God guards your minds. Peace is the fruit of positive faith-filled anticipation; an anticipation of Father’s faithfulness, His goodness, that He will direct your ways by the Holy Spirit and that your future is secure in our Father’s love.

  16. Betsy and Eric,
Prayers are with you from North Carolina. Prayer is so powerful. Do not lose faith. When you are too tired or worried to pray, let all of our prayers raise you and Noah up to God.
